How to make a braided Christmas wreath 

The step-by-step instructions to sew this braided fabric wreath are provided by Silvia (@silvia.creativa ), a restless creative and artistic soul with a passion for creating and exploring new techniques and materials. 

My name is Silvia Bernal, although on social media I’m known as Silvia Creativa. I’m 30 years old, I’m from Chipiona, a little village in Cádiz, I studied Business Administration and work as an administrative assistant. 

In my spare time, I enjoy photography, painting, sewing, embroidery, and all kinds of handcrafts. Discovering what I can make with my own two hands makes me incredibly happy. To make this braided wreath all you need is fabric, filling, and your basic sewing notions. Follow these step-by-step instructions and you’ll see how easy it is. 

Materials 

• Katia Fabrics cotton fabrics: 1 m of Xmas Birds Poplin, 1 m of Xmas Moments Poplin to make the fabric wreath and 55 cm of Xmas Jingle Bells Poplin to make the bow. 
• Fiber filling 
• Basic sewing notions: scissors, thread, sewing machine, etc. 

For the wreath: 

1. First, cut 3 pieces of poplin fabric of the same measurements, 1 m x 12 cm. You can use the same fabric or different colors or prints. 
2. Sew one of the pieces along the length of the side and turn it right side out, so that the seam is on the inside. Repeat this step with the other two pieces, forming three independent strips of fabric. 
3. Next, fill each of the fabric strips until they are nice and padded. 
4. Work a braid by pinning the three strips together at the beginning and the end. 
5. Lastly, sew the beginning and end of the braid together forming a circle. Cover the join with a strip of fabric so that it looks more polished. At the back, add a piece of ribbon or strip of fabric to hang the wreath with. 

For the bow: 

1. Cut a piece of fabric measuring 12 x 55 cm and a smaller piece measuring 7 x 3 cm. 
2. Fold the longer strip in half widthways with right sides facing each other and pin into place. To shape the corners, measure around 4 cm from one side inwards, trace a diagonal line toward the corner and cut it out. 
3. Sew around the entire edge of this piece of the bow, leaving an opening to turn it inside out. After sewing, turn inside out so that the right side of the fabric is on the outside and close the opening. 
4. Take the small strip and fold the ends inwards. 
5. Shape the bow with the bigger strip, do some folds and wrap the small strip around it. Stitch it together. 
6. Finally, sew the bow to the wreath where you joined the two ends of the braid together. 

And voilà! You’ve made a beautiful braided Christmas wreath to welcome the festive season in style. This craft is a wonderful way to customize your Christmas décor and add a unique touch to your home.
