Hello, crochet enthusiast and amigurumi lover! My name is Silvia and I’m excited to share a free amigurumi pattern with you to make this adorable Axel the Monkey with Katia Bambi, a soft chenille yarn with an irresistibly sweet velvety feel. - Katia Bambi color330 (brown): 1 ball
- Katia Bambi color306 (camel):1 ball
- US J-10/6-mm crochet hook
- Black thread
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers

- Two 10-mm safety eyes

- Magic ring
- Chain
- Single crochet
- Double crochet
- Increase: work 2 sts into the same st.
- Decrease: work 2 sts together.
- Popcorn stitch: dc4 into the same st, remove the hook from the loop for the last st made, insert the hook into the first st and the loop for the last st from front to back and pull the loop through the st.
- Join pieces with sc: insert the hook into the corresponding sts of the pieces you want to join, yarn over and pull through both sts, yarn over and pull through both looks on hook.
Instructions
This pattern is worked in pieces that are then joined together. Start with the head, ears, arms, tail, and legs. The legs are then joined together, and the body is created.

- Color A– Katia Bambi color 330 (brown)

- inc– increase
- m – marker
- pm – place marker

Notes
- All the pieces are worked in a spiral. Pm in first st of each r.
- Stuff the head, arms, tail, legs, and body as you work.
- To close the arms and ears, sc3 inserting the hook into the 1st and 6th st, 2nd and 5th st, and 3rd and 4th st.
Head
With color B, ch7.
R2: sk1, sc6, turn work and sc6 along the other side of the starting ch. [12 sts]
R2: sc1 into each st.
R3: inc1, sc4, inc2, sc4, inc1. [16 sts]
R4: inc1, sc8, inc1, sc6. [18 sts]
R5: sc2 with color A, inc6 with color B, sc10 with color A. [24 sts]
R6: sc3 with color A, sc11 with color B, sc10 with color A.
R7: sc3 with color A, sc2, inc6 and sc2 with color B, sc11 with color A. [30 sts]
R8: sc4 with color A, sc14 with color B, sc12 with color A.
R9-12: sc1 into each st.
R13: *sc3, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [24 sts]
R14: *sc2, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [18 sts]
Place eyes 8 sts apart between rs 5 and 6.
R15: *sc1, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [12 sts]
R16: dec6. [6 sts]
Cut yarn leaving a few cm. Pull through st.
With the tapestry needle, thread the tail through the 6 sts. Pull to close the circle and weave in the end.
With the black thread, embroider the nose between rs 1-3.
Ears (x2)
Work with color B.
R1: magic ring and sc6. [6 sts]
R2: inc6. [12 sts]
R3: *sc3, inc1*, rep ** to end of r. [15 sts]
R4: *sc3, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [12 sts]
R5: dec6. [6 sts]
Close ears with sc3. Cut yarn leaving a few cm and pull through st.
Attach to the head 12 sts apart between rs 10 and 11.
Arms (x2)
R1: with color B, work a magic ring and sc6. [6 sts]
R2: *sc1, inc1*, rep ** to end of r. [9 sts]
R3: popcorn 1, sc8.
R4: sc1 into each st.
R5: *sc1, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [6 sts]
R6: dec6. [3 sts]
R7: change to color B, inc3. [6 sts]
R8-18: sc1 into each st.
Close arms with sc3. Cut yarn and pull through st.
Tail
Work with color A.
R1: magic ring and sc6. [6 sts]
R2-23: sc1 into each st.
Cut yarn and pull through st.
Legs (x2)
R1: with color B, work a magic ring and sc6. [6 sts]
R2: *sc1, inc1*, rep ** to end of r. [9 sts]
R3: *sc2, inc1*, rep ** to end of r. [12 sts]
R4: popcorn 1, sc11.
R5: *sc2, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [9 sts]
R6: sc1 into each st.
R7: *sc1, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [6 sts]
R8: change to color A, rep R2. [9 sts]
R9-20: sc1 into each st.
Leg 1: cut yarn, pull through st and pm in 5th st.
Leg 2: don’t cut yarn, sc5 and continue working the body.
Body
Make sure that the popcorn sts corresponding to the toes face each other and toward the inside of the leg when working R21.
R21: ch2, return to leg 1 and sc1 into each st starting at the m, sc1 into each ch, sc1 into each st of leg 2, sc1 into each ch. [22 sts]
R22: sc1 into each st.
R23: sc20, return to tail and incorporate into the body by joining pieces with sc with the 2 remaining sts and the 1st st from the next r.
R24: sc21. [22 sts]
R25-29: sc1 into each st.
R30: *sc9, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [20 sts]
R31: *sc3, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [16 sts]
R32: *sc2, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [12 sts]
R33: sc3, return to arm 1 and join pieces with sc in next 3 sts, sc3, return to other arm and join pieces with sc3.
R34: *sc2, dec1*, rep ** to end of r. [9 sts]
R35: sc1 into each st.
Cut yarn leaving a few cm and pull through st.
Return to the head, attach to the body on rs 9-11.
