Love is more than red

When we think of Valentine’s Day, the color red automatically comes to mind. But what if we told you love can be blue like the sky, or green like nature, or even multicolored like a rainbow? Love is diverse, and at Katia Fabrics we want to celebrate that diversity.

Project: Sew heart-shaped cushions

Silvia @silvia.creativa, known for her creative and colorful creations, suggests a project that isn’t just perfect to decorate our home at this time of year, but also to give a piece of our heart. These cushions are easy to make and a great way to use up scraps we all have around the house.

Materials needed

To make these cushions all you need is fabric, filling, and your basic sewing notions.

  • Canvas fabric in different colors (explore our extensive range at Katia Fabrics!)
  • Cushion stuffing
  • Needle, thread, and scissors
  • Sewing machine

Step-by-step instructions with Silvia

Follow these step-by-step instructions and you’ll see how easy it is.

  1. Print out the pattern or draw your own heart-shaped pattern.
  2. Choose your fabrics: Think about the colors that represent your love. Is it passionate and vibrant? Calm and serene? Choose the fabrics that reflect it best.
  3. Cut out the pattern: Fold the fabric in half and cut out the full heart shape in one piece. Use the pattern to cut out two pieces from each fabric.
  4. Sew the pieces: Place both pieces of the heart with right sides facing each other, pin in place and sew around the entire outline 1 cm from the edge, leaving an opening to turn it right side out.
  5. Turn right side out and stuff: Cut out notches along the curved edge or use zigzag scissors, without cutting through the seam. Turn the cushion right side out, iron it and stuff it.
  6. Lastly, use an invisible seam to close the opening.
