5 sewing New Year’s resolutions for 2024

The year is coming to an end in a few days, so it’s the perfect time to set some goals and challenges for our sewing passion. Here are 5 sewing New Year’s resolutions to turn 2024 into a year full of creativity, learning and, above all, lots of fabrics! 

1. Dare to make new sewing projects 

This 2024, dare to step out of your comfort zone. If you’ve always sewn clothes, why not try some accessories? Or if you’re an expert at making cushions and curtains, try making a garment you’ve never made before. At Katia Fabrics, we offer a wide range of sewing patterns and fabrics for you to explore new possibilities. 

 

2. Perfect a sewing technique 

We all have a sewing technique that we find challenging. This year, set yourself the challenge. Whether it’s learning to sew invisible zippers, perfecting buttonholes, or even daring to try the world of patchwork, this is your year to shine. At Katia, we have an online academy with tons of tutorials where you can learn and master everything you need, not just sewing, but also other techniques like knitting, crochet or macramé. 

3. Take part in a sewing community 

Sewing can be a solitary activity, but it doesn’t have to be. Join a community, whether online or in person. Take part in sewing challenges, exchange advice and share your creations. On the Katia Fabrics Instagram, you’ll find an active and welcoming community. 

Join our Sew-Along Katia Fabrics Facebook group to experience the joy of sewing together with enthusiastic sewists from around the world. In this group we suggest sewing projects to sew alongside sewing enthusiasts from around the globe. For 2024, we’re planning many SALs ( sew-alongs), we’re going to sew a sewing box, a project bag, a handbag , a backpack, and accessories. Do you want to sew with us? 

4. Commit to sustainability 

Sustainable sewing is more than a trend, it’s a necessity. This 2024, we suggest a challenge to reduce plastic consumption from everyday life. We’ve created a Zero Waste Challenge Kit in collaboration with @nairamkitty. We invite you to join this movement to make 11 sewing projects with your own two hands and significantly reduce your everyday use of plastic. Each project you make is a brave step toward a cleaner and healthier planet. This kit, which will be available very soon on the website and in Katia stores. 

 

5. Spend time learning 

Whether it’s through books, magazines, blogs, or video tutorials, spend time every week learning something new about sewing. It could be a technique, advice about fabrics, or even fashion history. Knowledge is power! On our YouTube channel you’ll find endless video tutorials which we’re sure will help you learn a lot more.
