Learn how to sew a beautiful baby dress using the step by step video instructions

Even though August has already begun there is still plenty of time to show off our sewing projects. Today we are going to show you how to make an awesome baby dress with our pinafore dress and knickers pattern. A few weeks ago we showed you how to make the knickers which you can see HERE.

We are just missing the top part to complete this summer look. This is an easy level project which is perfect for beginners. Furthermore, it is so easy to follow the instructions using the video tutorial. The pattern is available in sizes 1-3 m, 3-6m, 6-9 and 9-12 months.

How to sew a baby dress ❤

For this dress we have used the charming Savanna Animals print featuring giraffes, elephants and flamingos in tonal pastel shades from the range of cotton fabrics in the Savanna collection.

To make the dress you only need the following:

Materials:

-Pattern: Pinafore dress + knickers
-45cm of principal Fabric. It is important that the fabric has been washed and ironed before starting to work with it.
-Elastic: 1.5 cm in width
-2 Buttons: 1cm in diameter

Sewing tools:

Scissors
Pins
Tracing paper & pencil
Paper scissors
Measuring tape
Fabric marker
Thread cutter
Iron
Safety pin
Sewing machine

First, choose the correct size and carefully read the instructions. This post showing “How to interpret Katia Fabrics sewing patterns” may help you.

Second, trace the pattern onto a light weight paper making sure to draw on all pattern markings and notches.

Or cut the pattern pieces out directly. This post showing “How to trace and cut out the pattern” may help you.

Once all the pieces have been cut out you are ready to start sewing.

SEWING TIPS

This is an easy pattern which includes making 4 buttonholes, adding a facing and gathering up the skirt section.
Overlock or zig-zag finish all the raw edges to avoid the fabric unravelling.
Use a measuring tape and a fabric marker pen or tailor’s chalk if necessary to mark the skirt hem. If helpful, you can also baste the seams together before sewing them on the machine.
