How to crochet a summer hat? It´s easy with the Chabepatterns pattern!

18 August, 2020

My name is María Isabel and I am the crochet pattern designer on Chabepatterns. I have a certain fixation with bags and the tapestry crochet technique. I also love designing fun projects for kids and home decoration. Crochet is a noble art. Furthermore, the variety of yarns and techniques available is so large that you never run out of ideas. It is an incredible opportunity to share this activity with others. Therefore, I am sharing how to crochet a summer hat with a few balls of Duomo from Concept by Katia. The Vista Hat is a very easy pattern to follow with images of the process. Moreover, you can crochet two types of summer hats. On the one hand, a hat with a short brim in the style of a fisherman´s or bucket hat, so fashionable now. And on the other hand, a wide brimmed sun hat or floppy hat.

@chabepatterns

I’ve been involved with the handicraft world since I was a child, thanks to my mum and grandma. They are the ones who taught me crochet and knitting. Whilst studying or working, I’ve always sought out the time to make something for myself or gifts for others. When I had a good grounding of skills under my belt, my mum and I started to visit local yarn shops. Here we learnt more about crochet techniques with different teachers. We continued to fall in love with crochet, in fact, so much so that we opened our own shop. Then we began to teach classes ourselves. From here, I started to create my own patterns if a student asked me. So this is how Chabepatterns, my project dedicated to crochet, came into being. My main sources of inspiration are Nature, textures and the colours around me.

The hat is made in 3 parts:

  1. Crown
  2. Band
  3. Brim

Notes

  • The hat is worked in the round and in a spiral form. Place a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round. The repeats are indicated between asterisks, from * to *, and are worked until the end of a complete round.
  • Important: Make the tension gauge square before starting the hat to ensure that it is the same as the pattern gauge indicates. If necessary, change the size of the crochet hook to achieve the correct tension. In order to be able to insert the hook in the centre of the stitches with ease while working knit stitch and to achieve the correct measurements, the stitches must be worked fairly loosely.
