XXL Crochet Tomato 🍅 Amigurumi Pattern by SpinmeetS
Summer is finally here. Time to enjoy and crochet an XXL crochet tomato, fresh, colourful and very big. This amigurumi pattern by SpinmeetS, created together with Amb llanes pel carrer, is part of an XXL vegetable garden that won over the public at the latest Feria Creativa Valencia 2014 and even made a TV appearance on TVE. A fun and original project that makes you want to take a bite, stitch by stitch.
Crochet fruits
Mandarins, oranges, lemons, watermelons, melons, grapes, pears, figs, apples, plums, strawberries, cherries, loquats, blueberries, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, cabbages, leeks, carrots, courgettes, aubergines, radishes, peppers, tiger nuts and, of course, as part of this crochet tribute to L’Horta, the XXL crochet tomato.

XXL Crochet Tomato Pattern
Approximate size: 26 cm diameter and 21 cm height.
Materials: 3 balls of Cotton Cord colour 69, 1 ball of Cotton Cord Print colour 102, 8.00 mm crochet hook, tapestry needle and stuffing.
Abbreviations (US crochet terms)

Start: Make a magic ring with 6 sc (6)
Round 1–5: Work 1 sc in each stitch (6)
R6: Work 1 inc in each stitch (12)

R8: (2 sc, 1 inc) x6 (24)
R9: (3 sc, 1 inc) x6 (30)
R10: Ch 9. Work along the chain as follows: 1 sc in the second chain from the hook, 1 sc in the next chain, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr. To secure the leaf, work 1 sl st into the third stitch of the base, counting from where the chain started.
Repeat Round 10 a total of 6 times.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly
Using the yarn tail left at the end of the tomato body, pass the needle through the tomato from top to bottom, running the yarn through the centre. Pull gently and secure with a knot at the bottom to create a slight indentation at the top of the tomato.
Using the yarn tail left on the leaves, sew them onto the top of the tomato.
Load up on vitamins with every stitch of this big crochet tomato.
