Crochet kimono 🎀 Updated free pattern by Mercería Aurora for My Katia Version
There are designs that prove that crochet is timeless. To celebrate 75 years of Katia, we have invited some of the stores that have been part of our history to return to a pattern from our archive and bring it to life again using today’s yarns. Mercería Aurora, a family-run haberdashery in Montilla (Spain) with 40 years of history, has chosen design no. 16 from the Katia Urban 84 magazine, published in the fall-winter of 2015/2016. A crochet kimono which, more than ten years later, is totally up to date. This is their #MyKatiaVersion: a breezy cardigan updated with knitted cuffs, fastened with ties and two Concept yarns held together, Combine & Shine and Silky Mohair, in a cute, burnt orange.
From 2015 to 2026: a timeless crochet kimono
A simple construction, open stitches and wide silhouette make this kimono an easy garment to layer over any look. This is exactly why Mercería Aurora chose it: “a cute, versatile and accessible project, both for experienced crocheters and those who want to learn to crochet.”

Two strands held together in a trendy color
To bring this crochet kimono back, Mercería Aurora used a 5-mm hook and held a combination of two strands together:
- 5 balls of Concept Silky Mohair in color 113 🛒
- 3 balls of Concept Combine & Shine in color 100 🛒
The soft halo of Silky Mohair is combined with the sparkle of Combine & Shine to achieve a lightweight, luminous and textured fabric. The burnt orange highlights the open design and the sparkles in the yarn.

As well as changing the yarn, Mercería Aurora updated the cuffs and ties to add their own style. The original crochet cuffs are replaced with knitted cuffs. To make them, pick up 56 stitches around each sleeve with short interchangeable circular needles of 3.5 mm and a 40-cm cord. Then, work 9 cm of 1×1 ribbing. This way, they have a more fitted and structured finish which contrasts with the open body.
To fasten it, replace the original buttons with two i-cord ties measuring approximately 50 cm, one attached to each front. Tie a bow to fasten the kimono and you are done. If you have any questions, in this video we show you how to knit an i-cord using knitting needles.
