The ideal fabric: plush-effect long-pile faux fur
For this tutorial, Cecilia has used long-pile faux-fur fabric in the color cream.
This faux-fur fabric is ideal not just for bags but also for handmade winter accessories like scarves, jackets or gilets.

7 Tips to sew long-pile faux-fur fabric
With these tips, sewing your own DIY shopper bag will be a piece of cake, even if this is your first beginner sewing project.
1. Use scissors instead of a cutter
Always use sharp scissors, making sure not to cut too much fur. This way you can maintain its natural texture without losing too much of it.
2. Brush the edges after cutting
Use a thin-toothed comb or brush to brush the fur away from the seams before sewing.
3. Use clips instead of pins
The thickness of the fabric means that pins can be easily lost. Sewing clips are much more practical.
4. Use the right needle
Use a universal needle or a special needle for thick fabrics (90/14). This way you’ll avoid skipping stitches.
5. Use a long stitch length and a walking foot
Adjust your machine with a longer stitch length (3-4 mm). If you have a walking foot, use it so that the fabric doesn’t slip.
6. Sew in the direction of the fur
Alinea siempre las piezas siguiendo la caída natural del pelo. Esto mejora el acabado y evita que se vea desigual.
7. Remove the leftover fur
Keep a Hoover or lint roller nearby: when cutting this fabric, some fibers come loose and this helps keep your workspace clean.
