We are Samanta Fornino (Follow the Crochet) and Maria Mirt (I mieilavoriall’uncinetto) and we want to present you with this crochet Mother Daughter set. We’ve called this project, comprised of two crochet garments made from Katia Capri Plus and Katia Polynesia, Mini Me. We love the combination of these two yarns! On the one hand, because of the bright strong Capri Plus colours; and on the other hand, because of the delicate Polynesia colour range. Follow our crochet Mother Daughter tutorials and discover how easy it is to make this dress and waistcoat set. Of course, we’d also like to encourage you to make this set so that you can match your look together with aunts, nieces, grandmothers and granddaughters.
Crochet Mother Daughter
Samanta: My design is a summer dress for girls from 6 months to 3 years. However, as this is a crochet Mother Daughter project, mums can also adapt it to their own size. In this case, for an adult, you must start the pattern with 180 chain stitches. This is a cool dress which is ideal for walking along the beach this holiday!
Maria: There’s no doubt that making something with your own hands is always a source of pride and conveys our passion for the little things in life. In this crochet Mother Daughter tutorial I explain how to make a Granny Waistcoat: a unique and personalised garment. You only need to make 3 crochet squares the same size to proudly show off a garment that matches your daughter’s, niece’s or granddaughter’s.

To finish, add a touch of sophistication to the dress by adding frills. How to work a frill: finish a row and start to work the following row = on the inside of the dress- from one of the previous rows. On the last row work 1 Sc in each stitch around the contour of the dress using a different colour to the one used for the previous row.
Crochet Mother Daughter by Maria Mirt
Materials: 5 balls Katia Capri Plus col.107
Crochet hook: size E4 (U.S.)/(3.5mm)
Pieces and Measurements: Make 3 crochet square each 15 3/4 x 15 3/4” (40 x 40 cm)
Ch st: Chain stitch
Dc: Double crochet
Ss: Slip stitch
First of all, start with a magic ring or with 4 Ch sts joined with a Ss.
R1: 5 Ch sts (3 Ch sts count as 1 Dc), 3 Dc, 2 Ch sts, 3 Dc, 2 Ch sts, 3 Dc, 2 Ch sts, 2 Dc. Join the row in the 3rd Ch st from the start with a Ss.
R2: 5 Ch sts (3 Ch sts count as 1 Dc), *3 Dc in the space between the groups of 3 Dc, 2 Ch sts, 3 Dc in the same space, 1 Ch st**. Repeat from *to** 3 more times. Join with 1 Ss in the 3rd Ch st from the start.
R3: 3 Ch sts (count as 1 Dc), 2 Dc in the space of the 5 Ch sts on R2 *1 Ch st, 3 Dc in the space between groups of 3 Dc on R2, 2 Ch sts, 3 Dc in the same space, 1 Ch st, 3 Dc in the following space**. Repeat from *to** until the end of the row and join with 1 Ss in the 3rd Ch st from the start.
Work the next rows as follows:
- 3 Dc in the space of 1 Ch st on the previous row.
- 3 Dc, 2 Ch sts and 3 Dc in the space of 2 Ch sts (corners) of the row below.
Continue working in this manner so that the size of the square grows after each row. Work the necessary number of rows to obtain the required square dimensions for your size, or the size of your daughter, niece or granddaughter.
To finish, once you have the 3 equal sized crochet squares, place them next to each other horizontally.
Next, sew the sides leaving a space (= the size you need) for each sleeve.
Shoulders: sew 3 1/2″ (9 cm) from the corners. To lengthen the sleeve, work in circular (2 Dc, 1 Ch st) at the sleeve gaps.
Edge: work 5 Dc in the space of 1 Ch st followed by 1 Sc in the second Dc of the row below.
