Firstly, because I fancied doing something different; and secondly, because there\u00b4s nothing better than a garment made using our own fair hands. After giving it a lot of consideration \u2013the idea of making a crochet coat is a little bit daunting, don\u00b4t you think?\u2013 I got to work. And, the good news is that it actually doesn\u00b4t take that long to make a crochet coat! href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/?p=PERU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Katia Peru<\/strong><\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em>(col. 10), 2 balls <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/?p=AZTECAMILRAYAS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Katia Azteca Milrayas<\/a><\/strong> (col. 706), size J10 (U.S.)\/(6 mm) crochet hook, scissors, wool sewing needle and tape measure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stitches<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ch st = <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/MUAQAexbsVw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chain st<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>How is the pattern worked?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>We will start with the <strong>back<\/strong>\u00a0(PIECE 1 in the image).<\/li>\n<li>Then continue with the <strong>front part<\/strong>\u00a0(PIECE 2).<\/li>\n<li>Then we will join these pieces to form the base of our coat.<\/li>\n<li>We will continue with the <strong>sleeves<\/strong>\u00a0(PIECE 3), crocheting in the round until we arrive at the <strong>cuffs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Then we will crochet the <strong>revere<\/strong>\u00a0of our coat along the whole edge of the front part and the neckline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u00b4ll find the\u00a0<strong>diagrams<\/strong>\u00a0with the forms and a <strong>size chart <\/strong>with the\u00a0<strong>measurements\u00a0<\/strong>(in inches and src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-chaqueta-ganchillo-katia-punto.jpg?resize=429%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"crochet coat\" width=\"429\" height=\"225\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Back<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Start:<\/strong>\u00a0Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/?p=PERU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Katia Peru<\/strong><\/a>. Work enough ch sts, in an even number, to reach <strong>measurement A<\/strong>\u00a0of your back size, plus an extra 2 ch sts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Row1:<\/strong>\u00a01 h.d.c. in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> ch st from the crochet hook, 1 h.d.c. in each ch st<\/p>\n<p><strong>R2:\u00a0<\/strong>1 ch st, turn work, 1 h.d.c. in each available stitch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R3:\u00a0<\/strong>4 ch sts (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch st), turn work, skip first st, 2 dc. tog, *1 ch st, 2 dc tog *, repeat from * to * until only 1 st remains on the hook, 1 dc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R4:<\/strong>\u00a01 ch st, turn work, 1 h.d.c. in each stitch or hole (the hole are formed by the ch sts on the row below).<\/p>\n<p><strong>R5: until Rx:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat instructions from R2 to R4 until arriving at <strong>measurement B<\/strong>\u00a0of the back. Finish with a R3 (= the row with the 2 dc tog). After the last dc work as many ch sts (in an even number) as needed to reach <strong>measurement C<\/strong>\u00a0of the back, work 2 extra ch sts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+1:<\/strong>\u00a01 h.d.c. in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> ch. st. from the crochet hook; 1 h.d.c. in each available ch st until arriving at what has been worked previously; 1 h.d.c. in each stitch or hole available from the row below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+2 onwards:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat the instructions for R2 to R4 for the whole length until arriving at <strong>measurement D <\/strong>of the back. Finish with a R4. Cut yarn.<\/p>\n<p>Half the back is ready! Now crochet the other half using the same instructions. Join the two halves of your back at the centre using Katia Azteca Milrayas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-chaqueta-ganchillo-katia-piezas.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1346\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-chaqueta-ganchillo-katia-piezas.jpg?resize=429%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"crochet coat\" width=\"429\" height=\"225\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Front part<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Work the same as the back as far as <strong>Rx+1<\/strong>, then continue working as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+2:\u00a0<\/strong>Repeat instructions of R2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+3:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat instructions of R3.<\/p>\n<p>Start increases at upper part to create the coat neckline shaping as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+4:<\/strong>\u00a01 ch st, turn work, 1 dec. of h.d.c., continue with instructions for R4.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+5:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat instructions of R2 until 2 spaces remain and work 1 dec. of h.d.c.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+6:<\/strong>\u00a04 ch sts, turn work, skip 2 stitches, 3 dc. tog, 1 ch st, 2 dc tog., continue with instructions of R3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+7:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat instructions of R4 until 2 spaces remain and work 1 dec. of h.d.c.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+8:<\/strong>\u00a01 ch st, turn work, 1 dec. of h.d.c., continue with instructions of R2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+9:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat instructions of R3 until 5 spaces remain and work 3 dc tog, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rx+10 onwards:\u00a0<\/strong>Continue repeating the instructions of Rx+4 to Rx+9, until arriving at <strong>measurement D<\/strong>\u00a0for the front part. The decreases at the upper edge create the coat neckline, the depth of the neckline is not important.<\/p>\n<p>Join these two pieces to the back at the sides and the shoulders using slip stitch, as shown in the following image. Now we have the base of the coat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-abrigo-ganchillo-katia-piezas-2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1342\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-abrigo-ganchillo-katia-piezas-2.jpg?resize=429%2C255&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"crochet coat\" width=\"429\" height=\"255\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Sleeves<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The sleeves are made in\u00a0<strong>4 phases<\/strong>. We will crochet in the round from the shoulder to the cuff.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PHASE 1<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Join a length of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/?p=AZTECAMILRAYAS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Katia Azteca Milrayas<\/a><\/strong> to any stitch at the base of the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R1:<\/strong>\u00a01 ch st (this does not count as a stitch), 1 sc in each stitch, close with a ss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R2:\u00a0<\/strong>1 ch st (this does not count as a stitch), 1 h.d.c. in the back loop of each available stitch, close with a ss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R3 onwards:\u00a0<\/strong>Repeat the instructions of row R2 until you reach <strong>measurement E<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PHASE 2<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Change to Katia Peru.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R1:\u00a0<\/strong>1 ch st (this does not count as a stitch), 1 h.d.c. in the back loop of each available stitch, close with a ss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R2:<\/strong>\u00a0Work the same instructions as R1 but working a dec. = h.d.c. at the two opposite ends of the fabric.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R3 onwards:<\/strong>\u00a0Repeat instructions from R1 to R2. The decreases will close the sleeve little by little. Continue until arriving at <strong>measurement F<\/strong>. Make sure to finish with a row with an even number of stitches.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PHASE 3<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Change to Katia Azteca Milrayas. Repeat the instructions of R1.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PHASE 4 (cuff)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Change to Katia Peru.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R1:\u00a0<\/strong>1 ch st (this does not count as a stitch), 1 h.d.c. in each available stitch. Close with a ss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R2:\u00a0<\/strong>2 ch sts (these don\u00b4t count as stitches), *1 dc with relief at front, 1 dc with relief at back*, repeat from * to * until the end of the row.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R3 and onwards:\u00a0<\/strong>Repeat the instructions of R2 until the whole sleeve reaches the length <strong>measurement G<\/strong>\u00a0or longer if you want to go for an <em>oversize <\/em>style. Cut yarn.<\/p>\n<p>You\u00b4ve finished one sleeve! Now make another one with the same measurements. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-chaqueta-ganchillo-katia.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1343\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ahuyama-crochet-chaqueta-ganchillo-katia-600x375.jpg?resize=600%2C375&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"crochet coat\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Revere<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/?p=PERU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Katia Peru<\/strong><\/a>. To even out the edge of the coat and make it all the same, work h.d.c. around the whole edge of the neckline and the collar. Work in the spaces you can see are free. Cut the yarn.<\/p>\n<p>Using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/?p=AZTECAMILRAYAS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Katia Azteca Milrayas<\/a><\/strong> at about 3 1\/8\u201d \u2013 3 7\/8\u201d (8-10 cm) from the lower front edge: Join the length of yarn to the back loop of that stitch and continue as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>R1:<\/strong>\u00a02 ch sts, 1 h.d.c. in the back loop of each available stitch. Repeat until you arrive at the other side of the coat, in the stitch opposite the one where you started.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R2:<\/strong>\u00a02 ch sts, turn work, 1 h.d.c. in the front loop of each available stitch. Work the last h.d.c. in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> ch st from the row below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R3:<\/strong>\u00a02 ch sts, turn work, 1 h.d.c. in the back loop of each available stitch. Work the last h.d.c. in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> ch st from the row below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R4 and onwards.\u00a0<\/strong>Repeat R2 and R3 until you reach the width of measurement E, or until you reach the point where you want the revere to reach.<\/p>\n<p>Done! Now your crochet coat is ready to be worn for the first time. I imagine, that just like me, you\u00b4ll be jumping for joy.
