You only need your chosen fabric and to follow the <strong>step-by-step <\/strong>tutorial that we are sharing in this post to make the kimono style <strong>jacket <\/strong>that we are proposing. Then, when my little sister Celia was born, she became my official model (you can see her regularly on my social networks).<br \/>\nI started by teaching myself to sew, and although I always thought that I would study fashion design, I finally opted for a degree in Industrial Design Engineering.<br \/>\nWhen I started work I realized that I couldn\u2019t leave my passion behind me and I enrolled in industrial pattern and sewing classes. They were 4 truly wonderful years in which I learnt the essential basic concepts. Make sure that the pattern is in the actual size to obtain the correct measurements.<\/li>\n<li>Assemble the pattern pieces following the<strong> assembly instructions<\/strong> included in the pattern.<\/li>\n<li>Fold the fabric in half, <strong>with the right sides facing together<\/strong>, and place<strong> the pattern pieces<\/strong> on top. Pin the pattern pieces onto the fabric.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cut the fabric<\/strong> following the instructions on Andrea\u2019s pattern. The seam allowances of 3\/8\u201d (1 cm) have already been added to the pattern pieces.<\/li>\n<li>When you have cut out <strong>all the kimono pieces<\/strong>, remove the pins, unfold the fabric and <strong>mark the right side <\/strong>of the fabric so you do not sew the wrong sides when working.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1020\" height=\"574\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uZITVueWRh4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Sewing the body of the reversible kimono style jacket<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>To start, <strong>sew<\/strong> the back and the two front pieces together at <strong>the shoulders<\/strong>, with the right sides of the fabric facing together. Repeat the same step with the other fabric.<\/li>\n<li>To <strong>sew on the sleeves:<\/strong> open out the kimono body and match the pattern notch at the centre of one sleeve head to a shoulder seam, with the right sides of the fabric facing together. Repeat the same step with the other sleeve and then with the other two sleeves in the interior fabric.<\/li>\n<li>After mounting the sleeves, close the garment sides: <strong>sew the underarm seams and the side seams<\/strong>, with the right sides of the fabric facing together. Repeat the same step with the interior piece of the kimono.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14127 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Kimono-reversible-patron-gratis.jpg?resize=550%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"how to sew a reversible kimono\" width=\"550\" height=\"700\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Join the exterior and interior kimono pieces together<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Next, with the <strong>right side of the exterior<\/strong> piece facing upwards, take the interior piece and <strong>introduce it through the sleeves.<\/strong>\u00a0 Both parts must stay positioned in place.<\/li>\n<li>Once one piece has been inserted inside the other, we are going to <strong>join the sleeves<\/strong>. Join both sleeves together (exterior fabric and interior fabric) and fold <strong>3\/8\u201d (1 cm) cm of the sleeve inwards<\/strong>, taking advantage of the collar still being unsewn to match the right side of the interior sleeve to the right side of the exterior sleeve. Repeat the same step with the other sleeve.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turn the jacket out to the right side.<\/strong> It is very important that the right side of both pieces are facing outwards on the <strong>right side<\/strong>. Give the seams a good <strong>press<\/strong> to fix them in place.<\/li>\n<li>Work a row of <strong>stitching along the edge<\/strong> of each sleeve to ensure that the fabrics don\u2019t move.<\/li>\n<li>To <strong>sew the lower edge<\/strong>, repeat the same process that we have used to sew the sleeves. <strong>Fold 3\/8\u201d (1 cm) <\/strong>of both fabrics (exterior and interior) <strong>inwards<\/strong>, taking advantage of the collar opening to fold in the 3\/8\u201d (1 cm), so the right sides of the exterior and interior fabrics are facing together.<\/li>\n<li>Turn the jacket to the right side and give the lower edge a good press to fix the seams in place.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14129\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/tutorial-Kimono-reversible-patron-gratis.jpg?resize=550%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"700\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Collar band edging<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>To make the collar band: place the <strong>two pieces together with the right sides facing<\/strong>. Close with a seam at the wide end of the collar band.<\/li>\n<li>Once sewn, match the right sides of the exterior piece to the interior piece so the <strong>seams match<\/strong>. Next, sew along the part that is not straight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turn the collar band<\/strong> out to the right side. <strong>Press<\/strong> the whole collar band to fix the seams in place.<\/li>\n<li>Next, <strong>sew the collar band onto the garment<\/strong>. To do this, open out the collar band and match the interior part of the collar band only to both the interior and exterior of the body.<\/li>\n<li>To finish, <strong>fold 3\/8\u201d (1 cm)<\/strong> along the edge of the unsewn part of the collar band inwards. And place the collar band on top of the garment. <strong>Top stitch<\/strong> the collar band around the whole contour of the jacket.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14125\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/C\u00f3mo-hacer-una-chaqueta-kimono-reversible.jpg?resize=550%2C700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"700\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s it!
