At first, we did not want to do it, but at your requests, we have created a tutorial of <strong>homemade<\/strong> fabric mask <strong>(non-sanitary)<\/strong> that we hope will be useful and <strong>easy to do.<\/strong> You can make the version of the mask with an opening to place an extra layer of TNT fabric filter and a wire to adjust in the nose as we explain in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/learn-how-to-make-a-childrens-face-mask-with-a-tnt-filter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>this other tutorial<\/strong> <\/a>where we also give you the measurements for adults.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9772\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/slide-posts-MASCARILLA-En.jpg?resize=1020%2C391&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"face mask tutorial\" width=\"1020\" height=\"391\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>WHO recommendations<\/h3>\n<p>First of all, you should know and follow the following recommendations given by the WHO (World Health Organization) when using any type of mask:<\/p>\n<h4>When to wear a mask<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are caring for someone suspected of having COVID-19 infection.<\/li>\n<li>Also wear a mask if you have a cough or sneeze.<\/li>\n<li>Masks are only effective if combined with frequent hand washing with a hydroalcoholic solution or soap and water.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0If you need to wear a mask, learn how to use and remove it correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to put on, wear, take off and discard a mask<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Before putting on a mask, wash your hands with an alcohol-based disinfectant or soap and water.<\/li>\n<li>Cover your mouth and nose with the mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Avoid touching the mask while wearing it; if you do, wash your hands with an alcohol-based disinfectant or soap and water.<\/li>\n<li>Change your mask as soon as it is wet and do not reuse single-use masks.<\/li>\n<li>To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of the mask); immediately dispose of it in a closed container, and wash your hands with an alcohol-based disinfectant or soap and water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to wash, disinfect and reuse the mask<\/h3>\n<p>1. Wash and disinfect the masks with normal detergent and water at a temperature between <strong>60<\/strong>\u00ba-90\u00ba (normal washing machine cycle).<\/p>\n<p>2. Immerse the masks in a 1:50 <strong>bleach dilution<\/strong> with warm water for 30 minutes. Later wash with soap and water and rinse well to remove any remaining bleach and allow it to dry.<\/p>\n<h2>How to sew a face mask<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9774\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/detalle4-mascarilla.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"face mask tutorial\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Materials<\/h4>\n<p>We have used two fabrics that surely you all have at home and that can be washed afterward at 60\u00ba.<\/p>\n<p>Fabric A: <strong>100% Cotton<\/strong> (poplin): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/EN\/fabric-p57-capri-mermaid-poplin-fabric-2001-57.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Capri Mermaid Poplin Fabric<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fabric B: <strong>Vichy<\/strong> (65% Cotton &#8211; 35% Polyester): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/EN\/fabric-v2-pink-sand-2016-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pink Sand<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9773\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/materiales-mascarilla-ES.jpg?resize=1020%2C574&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"face mask\" width=\"1020\" height=\"574\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elastic band, 5cm wide: 2 strips of 16 cm<\/li>\n<li>2 scraps of 22cm x 17 cm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is important that the fabrics are washed and ironed to start working with them. The pattern already has included a 0.5 cm seam allowance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9775\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/detalle-mascarilla-OK.jpg?resize=1020%2C574&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"face mask\" width=\"1020\" height=\"574\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Tools:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Pencil<\/li>\n<li>Thread and needle<\/li>\n<li>Pins<\/li>\n<li>Paper<\/li>\n<li>Tape measure<\/li>\n<li>Marker<\/li>\n<li>Iron<\/li>\n<li>Sewing Machine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step by step tutorial<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9776\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/detalle-mascarilla-VERMOUT.jpg?resize=1020%2C574&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"poplin vermout\" width=\"1020\" height=\"574\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To make this easy face mask, cut the pattern shape once in fabric A and once in fabric B.<\/li>\n<li>Sew the elastic at each end of one of the rectangles. Put the two pieces sides together and sew round the entire outline leaving a 7cm opening at the bottom.<\/li>\n<li>Turn rights sides out and pull out the corners well.
