Well, in today\u2019s<\/span> sewing class<\/span><\/strong> we are going to show you how to sew a shirt collar with a step by step video. You\u2019ll soon see how easy it is and subsequently you\u2019ll be able to try your hand at some of our awesome <\/span>shirt<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/a> or <\/span>shirt dress<\/a> <\/u><\/span><\/span>patterns<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For this project we have used this amusing<\/span> 100%<\/span><\/strong> cotton<\/b><\/span> fabric from the Into the jungle collection:\u00a0 <\/span>Jumping Monkeys<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>featuring a monkey print on a white background. For the<\/span> pattern we have used the <\/span>basic shirt<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/a>, but the tutorial can be applied to any shirt collar. Furthermore, poplin fabrics are cool <\/span>and breathable<\/b><\/span>, the ideal choice for summer garments.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to sew a shirt collar<\/h2>\n

To follow today\u2019s tutorial, besides the basic requirements including the pattern, fabric, iron and sewing machine you will also need a fine weight adhesive <\/span>interfacing<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

First cut out the pattern in the fabric 2 times and one time in the interfacing. Then iron the interfacing onto the wrong side of one of the collar pieces. Sew as shown in the video.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are a sewing <\/span>beginner,<\/span><\/strong> here are a few recommendations when attaching a shirt collar:<\/span><\/p>\n

– If you feel more comfortable doing so, or you are just starting to sew, baste the pieces together before sewing them on the machine.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Trim<\/span><\/strong> the seam allowances at the corners so the edges are not too bulky when you turn them out to the right side.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Every time you sew a seam, <\/span>iron<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
