A technique to join pieces together that doesn\u2019t require the fabric edges to be neatened with a zigzag stitch. With this method you can sew neat and polished seams. It is a technique that is often used for fine fabrics, like our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/EN\/fabrics.html?tela[]=2001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poplins<\/a>, and infant clothing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">This way we avoid direct contact of the seam with the skin in garments such as blouses or dresses<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">To do this type of sewing you will need <\/span><\/span>two left over pieces of fabric, pins, fabric scissors and a sewing machine. We have chosen this cute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katia.com\/EN\/fabric-north-landscape-poplin-fabric-2101-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poplin fabric<\/a> from the North scape collection.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7952\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/costura_francesa_1-600x486.jpg?resize=600%2C486&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"french seam 1\" width=\"600\" height=\"486\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">French Seam<\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">1. Match the two pieces of fabric together with the wrong sides facing each other, pin the seam and sew at a distance of 0.5 cm from the edge, reinforcing the start and finish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">2. Trim half of the width of the seam allowance.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7954\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/costura_francesa_2-600x400.jpg?resize=600%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"french seam 2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">3. After trimming the seam, open out the two pieces and iron on each side.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7953\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/costura_francesa_3-600x400.jpg?resize=600%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"french seam 3\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">4. Fold the fabric pieces together again, but this time with the right sides of the fabric facing each other. Pin in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">5. Sew the seam at a distance of 0.5 cm from the edge, reinforcing the start and finish.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7955\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.katia.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/costura_francesa_4-600x400.jpg?resize=600%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"french seam 4\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">6. Open out the fabric pieces and iron on each side.
