Winter Rose Wrap by Linda Modderman: Crochet this romantic picot edge shawl with Alpaca Gold

29 January, 2020

Hi! My name is Linda Modderman and together with my husband and our four children we live in the Netherlands. The creativity runs through my genes. Both my grandmothers were always knitting and crocheting and taught be the basics as a kid. For a long time I didn´t knit or crochet. When I was pregnant of our third child, I made my first baby hat. I haven’t stopped since then! My husband is a professional photographer and always captures my projects in the best way. In my free time I design and write patterns. My specialty is crocheting garments and accessories for children and adults. You can find my patterns (in Dutch) on lindamodderman.nl and I am also on Facebook and Instagram. Now I share with you how to crochet this picot edge shawl with Katia Alpaca Gold. Enjoy the Winter Rose Wrap free crochet pattern for beginners!

When I designed this crocheted wrap I wanted it to be versatile, easy to wear in different ways. As a stylish accessory, like a cape and also as a nice warm scarf. The soft fluffy Alpaca Gold yarn with golden sparkle gives this wrap a luxurious look. The beautiful picot edging gives it a delicate look. And, finally, the crocheted flowers provide the romantic detail, exactly the way I was hoping for.

Picot edging

R35. 1 Picot (= 3 Ch, 1 Sl st in first Ch), 1 Sc in next 2 st, 1 Picot, 1 Sc in next 2 st, 1 Picot. Then, in each 4Ch-Sp work a Point: 1 Sc, 1 Hdc, 1 Dc, 1 Picot, 1 Dc, 1 Hdc, 1 Sc. Then, **1 Sc in next st, 1 Picot, 2 sc* Repeat 5 more times, 1 Point in next 4Ch-Sp**. So basically, work 6 Picot followed by a Point in the 4Ch-Sp. Repeat from ** across, end last repeat with 3 Picots and 1 Sc in last st.

Do not fasten off after R35, but continue to work a picot edging on the top border of the shawl.
Start with *1 picot, 2 sc* repeat to end. Note: use a loose tension. If you notice your stitches are too tight, use a bigger crochet hook. Fasten off, weave ends.
