This sewing pattern is designed by Belén Pérez (@valvitas); she won the Katia Designers Awards 6 with this wonderful dropped-shoulder long-sleeve sweatshirt with a turtleneck. Follow this sewing pattern and sew this comfortable and cozy sweatshirt using the winter fleece and jersey fabrics from Katia Fabrics.

The fabric we’ve chosen to show you how to sew this cute sweatshirt is the jersey knit fabric, in pastel colors, with a particularly silky feel on the outside. Fabric made with recycled materials, certified with the Global Recycled Standard label. Perfect to sew comfortable garments like rompers, sweatshirts, dresses, or pajamas. Available in several colors so you can choose the one that suits you best.

Materials:

• Women’s sweatshirt pattern (S – XL) in PDF format
• 1.60 m of Recycled Brushed Jersey fabric
• 30-mm elastic (The pattern instructions include guidance for each size)

Recommendations

• It’s important to wash and iron your fabrics before starting to work with them.
• Cut all the pieces in the same direction as the grainline to avoid color changes in the fabric.
• To sew this fabric, we recommend using a jersey ballpoint needle, size 80/12.
• If you don’t have an overlock and your sewing machine doesn’t include elastic stitch, you can sew using a zigzag stitch with a loose tension on the top thread and a small stitch size, so that the stitching doesn’t break when we pull the seams.
• Also, avoid pulling the fabric while sewing so that the seams don’t stretch out.

Step-by-step instructions to make the turtleneck sweatshirt

To make this sweatshirt, first you need to download and piece together the PDF pattern. Read all the instructions carefully.

Next, cut the paper patterns. Here’s a post where we explain How to trace and cut patterns in case it is helpful. Once you have cut out the pieces with their corresponding notches, move onto making the sweatshirt.

1. First, place the front and back pieces of the sweatshirt with right sides facing each other. Pin and sew the shoulders.
2. Place the sleeves on the body, with right sides facing each other. Line up the notch with the shoulder seam and side notches. Pin and sew.
3. Join the sides of the sleeves and the body, with the front and back pieces with right sides facing each other, pin and sew.
4. Sew the sides of each neck strip, with right sides facing. Place both layers of the neck by inserting one layer inside the other, sew around the top with right sides facing.
5. Turn the neck right side out.
6. Sew the neck around the sweatshirt neckline, with right sides facing. Leave the neck seam in the center of the back neckline.
7. Hem the cuffs leaving some openings to run the elastic through.
8. Run the elastic through with a safety pin, tie the ends and sew the hem openings.
9. Make the bottom hem the same way, run the elastic through. Try on and adjust to desired size.
10. Tie the ends of the elastic and sew the opening closed.
