Video tutorial for a little girl’s pinafore dress

  1. Use the semi-transparent paper to trace around the pattern pieces.
  2. When the pattern pieces are ready, cut the pieces out in the chosen fabric.
  3. Iron the armhole bias strips into three parts. Sew the bias strips around the front armholes, with the right sides of the fabric facing together. Turn the strips inwards, fold along the seam line and top stitch in place on the right side of the garment.
  4. Cut the tape for the straps. Mount the straps on the right side of the fabric and stitch in place. Iron the upper seam of 3/8” (1 cm) towards the wrong side of the garment. Next, cut a piece of herringbone tape the same width as the neckline and sew to the recently sewn hem to neaten the edge.
  5. Make the hem along the upper edge of the back following the pattern markings. Pass the elastic through, using a safety pin, and fit to the required measurement. Take care to secure the ends of elastic in place with a few stitches.
  6. Join the front and back of the pinafore with the right sides of the fabric facing together. Lockstitch the side seams and neaten the seam edges so they do not unravel.
  7. Make a double hem and one buttonhole at the end of each strap.
  8. Sew the two buttons onto the back of the pinafore dress.
  9. To finish, make a double hem along the lower edge of the dress. Your pinafore dress is now ready to be worn.
