DIY Christmas: How to make a fabric Advent Calendar

Christmas is just around the corner and we want to be ready to celebrate it as it deserves. Therefore, we have prepared an Advent Calendar tutorial using the fabrics from our Xmas Coming collection. A poplin and a sweat fabric that match together beautifully in a combination of tonal greys and golds. This is a decorative project to celebrate the arrival of a family Christmas. You can place a note, a sweet, a chocolate, a mini toy, mini cosmetics… or anything mini inside every bag and in each boot. If you like Christmas and sewing, this is your project!

Advent Calendar

To make this Advent Calendar you only need two fabrics, cord and cardboard. It is so easy to do that within an afternoon you will be able to enjoy seeing it hanging up in your corner.

Materials:

Patterns
11 3/4″ (30cm) of Fabric A: Melange sweat fabric Coordinated and 11 3/4” (30cm) of Fabric B: Poplin Xmas. It is important that both these fabrics have been washed and ironed before you start working with them.
197”(5 m) of cotton cord
Card or cardboard labels
Sewing thread in the same colour as the fabric

Equipment:

Scissors
Safety Pins
Pins
Fabric marker
Iron
Sewing machine
Ruler, paper and pencil

MAKING UP

Advent calendar detail

Fabric A:

Cut out the boot pattern 24 times = 12 for one side and 12 for the other.

Fabric B:

Cut out 12 rectangles 10 5/8”wide x 9 7/8”high (27 cm x 25 cm).

Cord:

Cut 25 pieces each measuring 6 3/4″ (17cm) long.

All the pieces already have a 0.5 cm seam allowance included.

Follow our video tutorial where we give step by step instructions showing you how to make the boot and the bag. You do not need to neaten off the seams, especially on the boot which is made from the sweat fabric which does not unravel or fray. If you prefer, you can work a zig-zag stitch on the bag seams.
