Crochet Mother Daughter: Girl’s Dress by Samanta Fornino and Granny Waistcoat by Maria Mirt

18 July, 2018

We are Samanta Fornino (Follow the Crochet) and Maria Mirt (I mieilavoriall´uncinetto) and we want to present you with this crochet Mother Daughter set. We’ve called this project, comprised of two crochet garments made from Katia Capri Plus and Katia Polynesia, Mini Me. We love the combination of these two yarns! On the one hand, because of the bright strong Capri Plus colours; and on the other hand, because of the delicate Polynesia colour range. Follow our crochet Mother Daughter tutorials and discover how easy it is to make this dress and waistcoat set. Of course, we’d also like to encourage you to make this set so that you can match your look together with aunts, nieces, grandmothers and granddaughters.

Crochet Mother Daughter

Samanta: My design is a summer dress for girls from 6 months to 3 years.  However, as this is a crochet Mother Daughter project, mums can also adapt it to their own size. In this case, for an adult, you must start the pattern with 180 chain stitches. This is a cool dress which is ideal for walking along the beach this holiday!

Maria: There’s no doubt that making something with your own hands is always a source of pride and conveys our passion for the little things in life. In this crochet Mother Daughter tutorial I explain how to make a Granny Waistcoat: a unique and personalised garment. You only need to make 3 crochet squares the same size to proudly show off a garment that matches your daughter’s, niece’s or granddaughter’s.

Frills

To finish, add a touch of sophistication to the dress by adding frills. How to work a frill: finish a row and start to work the following row = on the inside of the dress- from one of the previous rows. On the last row work 1 Sc in each stitch around the contour of the dress using a different colour to the one used for the previous row.

Making up

To finish, once you have the 3 equal sized crochet squares, place them next to each other horizontally.
Next, sew the sides leaving a space (= the size you need) for each sleeve.

Shoulders: sew 3 1/2″ (9 cm) from the corners. To lengthen the sleeve, work in circular (2 Dc, 1 Ch st) at the sleeve gaps.

Edge: work 5 Dc in the space of 1 Ch st followed by 1 Sc in the second Dc of the row below.
