Craft Lovers ♥ Foglia di Bardana shawl knitted by Tibisay with Katia Cotton-Cashmere

My name is Valentina Cosciani –Tibisay- and I live in Trieste (Italy) with my husband Paolo, my two children Leonardo and Riccardo and our cat ´Strudel´. I spend lot of my time writing on my blog and drawing my patterns. I´ve learnt to knit from my Grandmother, a really elegant woman, and I have a past as a painter. Foglia di Bardana shawl

It´s part of the collection inspired by Monti Pallidi, Italian Dolomiti´s Mountain range. Bardana is a healing herb typical of Dolomiti mountains. Has top frame and gray elongated leaves. According to tradition, it is used to purify blood, against arthritis, stomach issues and wound care. Today it´s also recommended for skin care. ´Foglia di Bardana shawl´ is knitted from top in a particoular way; the middle part is decorated with a simple motif inspired by Bardana´s leaves. This garment is also suitable for men.

Measurements. 198 cm lenght x 38 cm center depth.

Yarn and Needles

Katia Cotton – Cashmere (90% cotton, 10% cashmere: 155 m / 50 gr skein), 4 skeins (600 m).
Circular Needles: 40´ US 4/3,5 mm or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge.
2 stitch markers + Tapestry needle + Blocking pins.

Gauge. 19 sts. x 30 rows = 10×10 cm Stockinette stitch after blocking. However, the gauge isn´t crucial on this project. If you want a larger Foglia di Bardana shawl you can enlarge it to the desired size. So, final blocking is very important to get the finished measurements!

With a stretchy bind off, cast off stitches. Break yarn, weave in ends and block.

Blocking Foglia di Bardana shawl

Wash the Foglia di Bardana shawl with cold water and neutral detergent. Then, press it gently with hands to let the water come out. Lay it on a big towel and roll it as a sousage, than press hardly to let all water come out. At this point, unroll the towel and lay it flat. Pull the shawl untill you reach the finished measures (with the help of a tape measure) and spill pins 2 cm one from another. So, pay attention to firmly attach the tips. Let dry. Finally, wear it and be chic!
